Online Brainspotting Therapy for Teens and Adults in California

A calm sea at dusk with a single small light glowing on the horizon

Some experiences are hard to put into words. Brainspotting is a gentle, body-based approach that helps you work with trauma, anxiety and stuck feelings without having to retell every detail.

What Brainspotting is

Brainspotting is a therapy method that uses where you are looking to help you reach feelings that are held in the body. We start by talking about what you want to work on. Then we find a spot in your field of vision that connects with that feeling. Many people find it a steadier way into hard material than talking alone, and the work is led by what you notice, not by a script.

How a session works

We start by talking about what you'd like to work on, whether that's a memory, a worry, or a feeling in your body that won't settle. Then I help you find a spot in your field of vision that connects with that feeling, and you rest your gaze there while you notice what comes up: thoughts, sensations, emotions, or nothing much at all. I don't push you to explain or relive anything. I stay with you, keep the pace steady, and check in as we go, and you can pause or stop at any time. Many people leave feeling calmer and clearer, though experiences vary from person to person.

A pace that keeps you steady

You set the pace. Before going into anything difficult, we build a sense of steadiness, and you can change focus, take a break or stop whenever you need to. The goal isn't to push through. It's to move at a speed that feels manageable to you.

What it can help with

It is often used alongside other approaches, and we can combine it with skills from DBT or CBT when that helps.

What the research says

Brainspotting is a newer approach. Early studies and clinician reports are encouraging, but the research is still developing and is not as extensive as it is for longer-established therapies such as CBT. I can't promise a specific outcome, and we'll check in regularly on how it's going for you.

What to expect

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to talk about what happened?

No. You can share as much or as little as you like. Brainspotting doesn't require a detailed retelling, which many people find a relief.

What does it feel like?

Experiences vary. Some people notice sensations in the body, shifts in emotion, memories or images, and some notice very little at first. All of it is welcome, and there's no right way to do it.

Is Brainspotting right for everyone?

Not always. If you'd prefer a more talk-based approach, or if something feels overwhelming, we can choose another approach, such as DBT skills or CBT. We'll talk through the fit in your free consultation.

Can Brainspotting be done online?

Yes. You'll need a private space, a screen and a stable connection, and I'll guide you in finding your focus point on camera.

Can we work in Mandarin?

Yes. Sessions are available in Mandarin, English, or a mix of both.
